I like to continue my fitness regimen when I am on a cruise, and the thing I prefer to do is run, but I hate treadmills.
Some cruises have great views of the oceans and ports from the ship gym, but still, you’re on a treadmill.
So I go up on the deck to the jogging track to work up a sweat in the fresh air, but there is a short window of good time to run.
Typically I will go around sunrise and if you are an early bird you can expect a pretty open track.
The tracks I’ve seen have usually been around 1/7 of a mile, so for those who are a little challenged with math you have to run, walk, or jog seven laps to equal approximately a mile.
But as it gets later it is increasingly difficult to run continuously, because people start crowding up there and walking like snails next to each other, which blocks the track.
And then there are others who go in the wrong direction, despite there being lots of arrows, and that makes it a weird game of dodging the confused folks.
Overall it’s a breathtaking experience, and not just from running hard. The views are amazing and the air so fresh.
Bear in mind it can be windy, so don’t stay out there if you feel like you’re getting pushed around by the winds.
