I’ve cruised out of New York City a half dozen times on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian and I always look forward to sailing out of New York and looking at the city as we head to sea.
When I was looking for a fitting picture earlier I stumbled on the one above – it was my first cruise and I was on the Carnival Destiny to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Being that it’s September 11 this was an exciting find for me because I didn’t think I had any photos of me with the World Trade Center, despite living in and around NYC and working in the city for many years.
Anyhow, each time I sail out of New York City the first half-hour or so on the boat is one of the highlights of my trip.
In addition to sailing along the New York City skyline, which is very awesome, it’s also neat to pass the Statue of Liberty.
I also really enjoy passing under the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on such a massive ship.
The one catch with sailing out of New York City is that you’re pretty far from beach destinations, which is why I’ve gone up to Canada from there a couple of times. But if you have a week you can visit some cool destinations.
